OSHA 10-Hour

Requirement

OSHA 30-Hour
In-depth safety training covering hazard recognition, avoidance, and prevention. Covers fall protection, scaffolding, electrical safety, excavation, and more.

Supervisors, foremen, safety managers

No formal expiration, refresher recommended every 3-5 years
Requirement
Required for supervisors on most commercial and government projects. Some states mandate it (e.g., Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts).
First Aid / CPR / AED
American Red Cross or American Heart Association certification. OSHA requires at least one trained person on every job site where medical facilities are not nearby (1926.50).

Fall Protection
Covers harness inspection, anchor points, SRL use, rescue procedures, and fall hazard recognition. Falls are the #1 cause of death in construction.

Anyone working at heights above 6 feet

Requirement
OSHA 1926.501-503 requires fall protection training for all exposed workers. Annual refresher is best practice.
Scaffold Safety (Competent Person)
OSHA requires a "competent person" to supervise scaffold operations. Training covers load ratings, inspection criteria, and fall protection on scaffolds.

Workers who erect, dismantle, or work on scaffolds

Confined Space Entry

Requirement
Required for all permit-required confined space entries. Must include rescue training.
Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E)
Covers arc flash hazard analysis, approach boundaries, PPE selection, lockout/tagout, and energized work permits. Based on NFPA 70E standard.

Requirement

Hazmat / HazCom (GHS)
Covers Safety Data Sheets (SDS), GHS labeling, chemical storage, spill response, and PPE requirements for chemical exposure.
Who Needs It
All workers exposed to chemicals

Requirement
OSHA 1926.59 (HazCom Standard) requires training for all workers exposed to hazardous chemicals.
Forklift / Powered Industrial Truck
OSHA requires operator evaluation including written test and practical driving test. Must be specific to the type of equipment operated.

Forklift, telehandler, and boom lift operators

Renewal
Every 3 years, plus refresher after incidents
Requirement
OSHA 1926.602 and 1910.178. Operators must be evaluated and certified for specific equipment types.
Rigging & Signal Person
Qualified rigger training covers load weight estimation, sling selection, hitch types, and inspection. Signal person must meet OSHA 1926.1400 series qualifications.
